July Member of the Month

Rest day/Make ups

This time last year… Donna wrote on having a Balanced CF Lifestyle.

For the month of July, we honor one of Chicago’s Bravest. Mr. Brian Clarke is our latest Member of the Month! He’s made tremendous changes since he joined a couple years ago and is continuous improving, especially after the 3rd month when he stopped cherry picking his workouts. Brian helps out at the box, sets up events, and is one of the very first guys to step up whenever we need volunteers. He’s one of the leaders of the noon class and one of the reasons why everyone in that class is so close. Brian isn’t done recruiting other first responders to join though. He wants to keep Chicago safe and he’ll continue pushing for more of his co-workers to pick-up CrossFit. Learn more about Brian, how CrossFit has changed his life, and tips to new members in the video.

Here’s a link to the WGN coverage of the Memorial Workout Brian put together last year!

Congrats Brian! You were the first person I met at CFC, so only fitting I’m the first to comment!

  2. Radin says:

Last day of my 2 week vacation, so what did I do? Visited crossfit asphodel in hong kong at 7am. Nice box and good people, but I’m exciting to get back to cfc. I’ve had way too many breakfast buffets.

    Front squat 5-5-5-5-5

    135-145-145-145-175 (2x)-155

Everything in kilograms, had a mental lapse on last set. Accidentally added 30 lbs. Took me a minute to figure out why I failed rep 3.

    Metcon

    10 minute amrap

  3. Radin says:

    Oops hit submit

    10 ohs 95#
10 v ups (tough sit up variation)
    10 lateral jumps over bar

    5 rounds + 3 ohs

Did this rx’ed, but not a stellar performance on my part. Not exactly a workout tailored to my strengths. Great times….

  4. Radin says:

And congrats brian! I’ll see everyone this weekend…

  5. Kelly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! says:

You so deserve this. You are an inspiration to us all, a friend, a motivator, a friendly competitor. You got me into crossfit and I thank you for it. I owe my weight loss, amazing figure, and the ability to “cut a rug” like I used too. Thanks

  44. alex says:

Congrats BC on the MOM honors. I think all the past MOMs should all get commemorative plaques, tattoos, engraved bronzed Nanos, or Starter jackets to show how elite and exclusive they are as a group.

11000sf….now we are big time. I can quit my day job and clean the floors and pullup bars all day to pay the bills so I can do 5 wods everyday and become elite

Dougie much props to you for doing the 60 min wod. More fun to come so watch the blog. My mind has no limits with the creativity and brutality of the self programmed killer wods. Get ready for rope climbs in the next edition….

  45. Erin says:

Congrats Brian!!! So happy for you. Well deserved!

*Anyone running the Terrapin 5k tonight, be on the look out. Suzanne and I will be heading down there this afternoon for our second workout of the day woo hoo!

  46. Ke$ha says:

    Congrats Brian!!!

  47. Danny says:

Congrats, Brian! I have seen so many changes in your abilities, and it’s great to see you recognized for all that you do.

I’m in my second phase of my own Paleo challenge after 40 days on strict. I was going CRAZY for wine, and I had to have two glasses–okay, three glasses on only one day a week. I know that it is my “gateway” so I am cautious with the amounts.

Bryce took pictures of me post WOD, but I look like a blind and cross-eyed space alien in them, so I’m taking new ones (Sorry, Bryce!).

I’m down to 194# from 199# at the start. My start weight is about the weight I’ve been for the past 2 years since I started Paleo, so I’m happy that it moved. My goal is 189. I’ve not cracked 190# since the 2000, and that elusive streak is enough.

I’ll post before/after pics on my FB page, but I’m still not done… So, I won’t claim it as ‘after.’

Lastly, thanks to everyone who has been so encouraging to me at the box. They’ve always come when I’ve needed it the most, and I’m thankful for that.

Oh, and the pictures on the refrigerator will stay there. When I go to grab food at night, I see them there, and I make a decision. Sometimes I go for the cashews and eat 2 or 3 for the taste to allay the torturous temptations, but the pictures saved me from having the handful(s).

  48. I'm Sexy And I Know It says:

11,000 square feet will be sufficient for 6 months, maybe!

20,000 square feet move within 12 months!

    Boom!

  49. Anja says:

One mile open water swim @ Ohio @ 2pm. Getting more confident in my pace but breathing on my right side is so awkward.

  54. No Moniker says:

    @Bryce-
You are incorrect as I have never walked by that new space. I always skip by in anticipation of seeing you!

  55. Jamison says:

@Bryce is it home depot because that would be ridiculous

Called it quits there, no conditioning. Gas tank was on empty today, but had to fit it in due to scheduling. It has been a long time since I came in here with such little energy. Not a good recipe on deadlift today. Food, sleep.

  61. Brian C says:

Thanks to the coaches and staff for bestowing this honor to me. Thanks to all the members of the community for being so supportive of me, the memorial events, and my fellow Firemen.
