Bed Head, No Problem
-Erin Cunningham

So you’re not a morning person. That’s ok, I’m not always a morning person either. But, the good thing about CrossFit Chicago is that we have a ton of class times, meaning no excuses for not being able to get to the gym. I totally understand not wanting to workout at 6am. We know they’re all a bunch of weirdo’s that workout that early anyway!! Totally kidding, no one go and blow up at me on the blog. For all of those who were not aware or have just made excuses for not getting up in the morning to workout, we have a class every MONDAY WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY at 7am. Here are a few things I wanted to share about this class that may entice you to show up.

1. The blog picture today – George and Ben roll out of bed regardless of what their hair looks like, no judging I swear. Some mornings, my hair is also in pretty rough shape, but luckily I have huge muscles and I think people are afraid to call me out.

2. The Lululemon Halsted Crew – usually every Wednesday we get a small group of the Lulu staff come and sweat it out. They bring a ton of energy and lots of good laughs to class.

3. Class Size – Don’t be mad at me my regular 7am folks, we may grow a little bit because of this article. Typically, the class ranges anywhere from 1-15 people. I’m sure some folks actually get annoyed with how much I get to hover over them and watch what they’re doing. Trust me, I’m only trying to help you!

4. Dancing/Music – I try hard to get the 7am’ers moving in the morning. I know it’s tough to workout early so we tend to jam. I still have not busted out my dancing warm up, but it may show up soon.

5. ME! – I know most of you members that frequent the evening classes aren’t familiar with me and some of our other coaching staff in the morning. I’ve now been a CrossFit coach for just under 3 years and have coached the 7am class just over a year. When I’m not coaching, or assuming the role of Director of Enterprise accounts, yes I do have a big girl job I’m not a total gym rat, I try and train to hang with the big dogs in the CrossFit community. I’ve competed the last 3 years in Regionals and am looking forward to the 2013 Open coming up.

So there you have it, FIVE really great reasons to come and check out the 7am MWF class. I choose to come and coach before I get my work day started because it’s so awesome to be able to get people moving. Now you have no excuses. We have plenty of showers to get you all off to work on time. See you soon!

I would definitely not call Coach Erin out on her bedhead because for the most part she doesn’t have it and if she does she sports it with a toque. :) She is a great coach so I highly recommend taking her class.

Scaled TTB to however many reps I was able to get in 3 sets. Maybe should’ve just gone with KTE, because I think it ended up being only like 10 in the first round and 7 in the second round.
Was on the 8th push jerk rep of my 3rd round at the buzzer.

Should’ve been sub 3 but toes to bar on the last round were a struggle. Jerks unbroken no problem and ttb were 21, 12+3 & the 9 set took about 3 sets incl 2-3 no reps. i went for it and didn’t pace which is something I need to work on so no regrets but probably could’ve done sub 3 had I waited a little bit before the 15 & 9 ttb sets were strategizing. Fun one

I think Abbey was out the door before I finished this one. Jerks were broken 2-3-3 sets each round, I don’t think I chained these very well, and ended up pressing out a lot. Only did about 9 ttb strung together. Need to get past that mental barrier when stringing those in a wod.

Be sure to stick around for Bryce’s after school special message.

  11. Casey says:

Worked to 1 rep max on strict press (145#). Completing my 7-day goal. One month = 30 unbroken double-unders. 6 month = 7 unbroken strict pullups.

Metcon: lots of scaling. 21-15-9 push press @ 95#, 15-12-9 TTB. 7:35. Rough day on the grip.

Metcon: @ 95# 7:40. Grip strength limiting factor especially after all those deadlifts. First time was envious of the volume group’s workload. Really need to spend more time on Toes to Bar technique because most of time was spent hanging on the bar using a lot of energy.

Post: taking Bryce’s recovery advice to the bars tonight. I’m sure the bartenders of Chicago will accommodate.

Some day I am going to surprise Erin and myself and get to a 7am class. Maybe when I am retired and don’t need to get to work so early in the morning or stay so late in the evenings. My only excuse is that I need at least 6 hours of sleep to function at the office and my work schedule is getting in the way of my workout schedule. Not good! I am envious of the early morning WODers. I know when I was able to do it in the past (way back when I could join the 9am) it really gave me great positive energy throughout my day. Erin is a terrific coach and I got to count for her last year during one of the open wods which was so fun. Talk about “big dogs”…she’s it!

Today wasn’t my day! I did a terrible job stringing my jerks together and lost my TTBs far earlier than I would like to admit. Late post. Partnered up with Natalie during the technique portion (and she got a PR! Woo hoo!).

    Deadlifts 1-10-1-20-1-30
    123-118-133-93-143-93

Flew through the 20 and the first 20 during the 30, so I probably could have gone heavier (especially for the 1).
